Northern Vietnam port city seeks investors for $101 mln waste-to-energy project

The Hai Phong Economic Zone Management Board is set to begin the process of selecting investors for a waste-to-energy project in the northern port city.

The VND2,499-billion ($100.8 million) project will cover 10.56 hectares in the city’s Dinh Vu-Cat Hai Economic Zone, according to a document released by the municipality.

Featuring two incinerators, two emission processing facilities, and one turbine for electricity generation, the plant will have a daily processing capacity of 1,000 tons of domestic waste to generate 20 MW of power.

The project will have a duration of 30 years from the date of signing the land lease. Hai Phong authorities want the project operational in December 2025.

On daily basis, Hai Phong city has to process 1,000 tons of urban domestic waste and 800 tons of rural domestic waste a day. The total figure is projected to rise by 10-15% every year. At this moment, most of the domestic waste is buried.
